The main proportion of information and all the stories have come of course, from very many Carmunnock people only some of whom are mentioned on these pages. They have been helpful both recently and over a number of years. A few of these people have kindly lent photographs, newspaper cuttings, books of poems, old programmes and lecture scripts.
The Rev Dr. Henry Hutchison’s books on Carmunnock Church and Statistical Accounts of Carmunnock Parish by the Revs Adam Forman, John Henderson and Charles Harrison were invaluable. Frank Worsdall’s lectures on local history in 1972, 73 and 74 were of great interest; and for some historic matters I have taken brief references from several books, and have had useful visits to Museums, Records Offices and Libraries here in the West and in Edinburgh. Also, as the result of a visit in 1980 by the late Madam Stuart Stevenson’s grandson, James, I had the privilege of seeing their family tree and history books. A complete list of sources I have used for references is noted below.
I asked Mr. Marshall Lambie to write me some paragraphs on the bird, animal and plant life in and around Carmunnock, and with his kind permission I quote these in full.
I am particularly indebted to Mr. Archie Hunter for his pen and ink drawings throughout the book; they lend interest and charmingly brighten the pages of this long story.
Lastly, I would like to thank the several people who patiently read through the script at its various stages to check information etc. and were such a help to me.
B.W.H.H.
